While he was moved by Emmeryn’s words and actions, and could not walk away from fighting Chrom and the Shepherds, Mustafa allowed his subordinates the option of doing so (the man’s expected to execute deserters), thusly inspiring most of them to follow him by choice. This Plegian General served under Mad King Gangrel, not out of loyalty to him per say, but more out of a love for their country, and because if he didn’t follow orders, the king would order his family killed to set an example.
